Hot, hazy, somewhat humid on Wednesday

SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) -

High pressure is slowly moving in as the low pressure departs the area. While we picked up between .25-50" of rain here in western Mass, Cape Cod and Nantucket Island picked up 2-4" this morning. We are now left with clearing skies this afternoon and evening, setting the stage for a very hot day on Wednesday.

Overnight, our temperatures will fall into the upper 50s. As soon as the sun rises, we will see our temperatures skyrocket. We'll be into the mid 90s by tomorrow afternoon. Factoring in dew points of low 60s, our feels-like temperatures will top off in the upper 90s.

We are just as warm on Thursday but, as high pressure slides away, an area of low pressure tracks to our north. By the time the front arrives in New England, it could kick off some strong thunderstorms in the area for the afternoon. The thunderstorm development will be aided by temperatures well into the 90s and very muggy conditions.

We are slightly cooler on Friday, however I still think we'll hit 90, making this the first heat wave of 2016. We'll see another chance of afternoon showers and storms. Saturday remains unsettled before we begin drying out into Sunday.
