PLYMOUTH, Mass. (AP) - Barges being used for July Fourth fireworks celebrations in two coastal Massachusetts towns caught fire, in one case causing an explosion and premature ending to the show.

The state fire marshal said Tuesday that no one was injured in either fire because the fireworks were ignited electronically, not manually.

Police say a malfunction caused the fire Monday in Plymouth, southeast of Boston.

Witnesses say the show had been going on for 10 or 15 minutes when there was a large boom on a barge followed by bursts of fire. The cause remains under investigation.

A barge fire off Salisbury north of Boston was caused by trash left on the vessel.

The person who set off the fireworks faces an administrative hearing for a fire code violation.
