Showers and thunderstorms rolled through the region last night bringing torrential rain and damaging winds to much of the area. There were numerous reports of tree limbs down throughout Western Mass. We could see more showers and storms again this afternoon.
The other story this afternoon will be the heat and humidity once again. A Heat Advisory is in effect for central and eastern Hampden county from 11 am until 7 pm. Heat index values could once again approach the triple digits this afternoon. Because of the high levels of heat and humidity as well as the potential for strong to severe thunderstorms this afternoon today is a First Warning Weather Day. Highs will top out in the upper 80s and lower 90s. If we do hit 90 at Westover that will keep our second heat wave of the season going.
Afternoon and evening showers and storms are possible again today with a passing cold front. The main threat with any thunderstorms would be for damaging wind gusts and torrential downpours, which could lead to street and poor drainage flooding. If you do have outdoor plans this afternoon keep an eye to the sky and be ready to head indoors if you hear thunder.
We will dry out briefly on Monday with partly sunny skies and slightly lower levels of humidity. Highs tomorrow top out in the mid to upper 80s. The humidity will begin to build back in by mid-week with the chance for showers returning as well.
