Week 2 -- Friday Football Fever

Posted: Updated:

Up-and-coming teams made their mark in Week 2 of the high school football season, highlighting an exciting night of football across Western Mass.

Hopes were high in Northampton, after the Blue Devils' impressive win in their opener. As they did in Week 1, Northampton relied on the legs of Elijah Davis. He ran for four touchdowns, matching his input last week, and leading the Blue Devils to a 36-14 win. Quarterback Ryan Bredin scored Northampton's only other touchdown in the 2nd quarter on a short run at the goal line. Clay Moseman and Carlo Calabrese ran for scores for the Lancers, but they couldn't keep pace. They drop to 0-2, while Northampton starts the season 2-0.

Similar fates played out in Wilbraham, where West Springfield hoped to capitalize on their Week 1 win over Longmeadow, as they took on Minnechaug. Once again, Kyle Beane was the stand-out for the Terriers, scoring 4 touchdowns in 3 different ways. He got the Terriers their first score, after they fell behind early, with a long kick-off return. Beane went on to catch two touchdown passes and run for another. West Springfield starts 2-0 with a 33-16 win, dropping Minnechaug to 0-2.

In Westfield, the Bombers tried to carry their momentum into a match-up with the Agawam Brownies. Austin St. Pierre led the charge early on, running in the game's first score. Anthony Adams answered with a rushing touchdown for Agawam, but the Brownies missed their conversion. After an interception by Westfield's Zach Adam, St. Pierre led a two-minute drill to find Baley Collier for a touchdown in the final seconds of the half. Wilton Royal helped charge the Bombers in the 4th quarter with two scores, pushing Westfield to a 38-19 win.
