Week 6: Friday Football Fever

Posted: Updated:

Two huge match-ups highlighted an exciting week of high school football in Week 6. Two of the area's best undefeated teams were on the road, facing tough tests against league opponents.

In the AA, Chicopee Comp brought their high-paced passing offense to Agawam to face the Brownies. The first half was well-fought, with the scoreboard reading 7-7 with 3 minutes to play in the 2nd quarter. Chicopee Comp quarterback Trevor Johnson led two key possessions that turned the tide before the break. Johnson found Josiah Pernell on a long touchdown pass to give the Colts the 14-7 lead. The Colts stopped Agawam on three plays, forcing the Brownies to punt it away. Agawam's punt, however, went into the back of an offensive lineman and the Colts took over on downs in Brownie territory. On the very next play, Johnson found wide receiver Mason Labonte over the middle for a touchdown, pushing the Colts to a 21-7 lead. The second half featured more of the same, Mason Labonte ran in a touchdown and Johnson found Derek Girouard for a long touchdown pass, pushing Chicopee Comp to an eventual 34-14 win.

In the Suburban South, undefeated Northampton came into Westfield to challenge the Bombers. The Blue Devils have been fueled by running back Elijah Davis all year long, and he got Northampton their first score on a 51-yard scamper that tied the game in the first quarter. From there, Westfield looked much like they did last week against West Springfield. Quarterback Austin St. Pierre ran in two touchdowns, flanked around three long touchdown passes to Bailey Collier. Wilton Royal added two scores to give Westfield a huge 49-18.
