Victim of deadly Westfield crash identified

WESTFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) -

Officials have identified the person killed in a weekend crash in Westfield.

Westfield Police told Western Mass News that they responded to that one-car crash near Russellville Road and Cabot Street around 11 p.m. Saturday.

Jim Leydon, spokesperson for the Hampden County District Attorney's office, said Monday that an initial investigation revealed that 19-year-old Nick Sanchez was driving along Russellville Road when left the road and crashed into a wooded area.

Sanchez was taken to Baystate Medical Center and is expected to survive.

Justin Messier, 24, who was the passenger in the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Leydon noted that the crash remains under investigation by members of the Westfield Police, the D.A.'s office, and the Mass. State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section.
