SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) -

The Springfield Thunderbirds are gearing up for their very first season in the Pioneer Valley after transferring from Portland, ME at the end of last year.

In honor of the season home opener on Saturday, the Big Y Surprise Squad went out in search of some lucky fans to send to the game.

Through downtown Springfield, we searched with none other than Boomer, the team's mascot, for lucky fans to get a four pack of tickets and free t-shirts.

From the smallest fans to the lifelong ones, the Big Y Surprise Squad spread the Springfield pride with everyone they met.

Puck drops at 7:05 p.m. Saturday for the Thunderbirds and these fans are ready to see a big win at home at the MassMutual Center.
