With the playoffs drawing closer, the area's two top teams squared off in what will likely be a playoff preview in Division II. The Central Golden Eagles came to take on the undefeated Chicopee Comp Colts Friday night.
The Colts have been nearly flawless throughout their undefeated start, but Central proved they are better than their 4-2 record coming into the game. Central quarterback Tank Walker led the charge in the first quarter, helping the Golden Eagles build an incredible 31-0 lead. Walker ran for two touchdowns and threw for two touchdowns in the first half, helping Central pull away. Comp quarterback Trevor Johnson answered in the second quarter on a long touchdown to Francisco Rodriguez. The Golden Eagles offense, however, didn't let up. Deandre Goldson ran for two scores and the Colts could not keep pace Central wins 57-14.
In another huge AA battle, Longmeadow kept their playoff hopes alive against Agawam. They bottled the Brownies' strong running game, while snagging four interceptions. The Lancers defense led the way, allowing Joey Cosenzi and others build a Longmeadow lead. Longmeadow gets a critical 20-0 win, but will need another win when they take on Minnechaug next week.
Correction to Week 7 video: Senior Nick Tausendfreund scored a long touchdown run in the 2nd quarter for the Eagles, before quarterback Max Weir found Camden Kelly for Kelly's second touchdown of the game to help Easthampton top rival Amherst 26-18.
