The regular season finales had big implications for many teams, hoping to stay in the playoff picture or push for a chance to get into the seedings. With only four teams making the playoffs from each of the four Western mass divisions, Week 8 had a playoff atmosphere. However, no one will officially know their fate until the seedings are decided at a meeting on Sunday.
In Division II, the Chicopee Comp Colts likely secured the top seed with a convincing win over Holyoke. On a windy night in Chicopee, the Colts used more of the ground game than their used to. Corey Heath ran for two scores, and Kyle Jones ran for a touchdown in the 3rd quarter. Quarterback Trevor Johnson added two touchdown passes to give the Colts a 43-14 win.
Central continued their momentum to close out the regular season, by taking down Agawam 56-14. Tank Walker led the Golden Eagles with three touchdown runs and two touchdown passes. The loss was Agawam's third-straight, likely knocking them out of the playoff seedings. That's because West Springfield, which came in with a less than six-point lead in the 'Walker Ratings' that are used to determine playoff seedings, shocked Northampton with a 28-0 win. Tyler Rochefort threw for three touchdowns in a huge win for the Terriers, likely affecting Northampton's chances at the top seed in Division 3.
An incredible game played out at Szot park between Chicopee and South Hadley. After a scoreless first half, the Pacers held a lead in much of the second half. But a touchdown pass in the final minutes to Ryan Mooney gave South Hadley a 15-12 victory, ending any chance for the Pacers at the playoffs.
In Division 4A, Turners Falls completed an undefeated regular season by taking down Ware, likely affecting Ware's shot at a playoff spot. The Indians close out an incredible season with a 28-12 win.
