One Western Mass champion was crowned Friday night, while six other teams awaited their chance at a title. Week 10 was a regular season finale, of sorts, for many non-playoff teams. But up at Williams College in Williamstown, Turners Falls and Mount Greylock were deciding who would be named Division IV-A Western Mass champion.
They were the top two seeds in the Division IV-A Sectional Playoffs, both boasting undefeated records heading into Friday night. The title game did not disappoint, going down to the game's final seconds. Quinn Doyle started the game's scoring with a touchdown for Turners Falls. The Indians would add another score to take a 14-0 lead. Mount Greylock responded by scoring 24 unanswered points to take a ten-point lead. Mounties quarterback Michael Wellspeak found Brandon Condon for a 14-yard touchdown to give Mount Greylock the lead. They added two it on a touchdown by Devin Pelletier.
Turners Falls came storming back in the final minutes, leaving themselves with a chance to walk off with a win in the Mounties' red zone with just five seconds remaining. That's when Owen Ortiz grabbed the game-winning touchdown in the back of the end zone and the Turners Falls Indians claimed the D-IVA Western Mass Title. Turners Falls 26 - Mount Greylock 24.
