Five people are without a home after a fire started in the second floor of a home on Yale Street this afternoon.
Aide to the Springfield Fire Commissioner Dennis Leger said that they responded around 3:45 p.m. to the 100 block of Yale Street.
One family lives on the second floor of that home, and the first floor is vacant.
Investigators have determined the cause to be from a stove left unattended while cooking.
Damages are estimated to be around $85,000.
A child was monitored for possible smoke inhalation, but no one has been transported to the hospital.
The Red Cross has been called in to assist those five family members.
