Frigid temps continue and measurable snow is on the way!

Posted: Updated:

Temperatures in the 20s will be dropping into the teens through the overnight hours. It has been feeling like teens most of the night with a continued northwest breeze, but by morning many will feel more like single digits.

High pressure takes over Saturday, allowing for more sun and a lighter breeze. Our high temp will actually be a bit colder-only maxing out on either side of 30 degrees! We keep a wind chill in the teens and low 20s much of the day. With dry air, lighter winds and mostly clear skies in place, many through the valley will hit lower teens Saturday night.

Our next storm is tracking across the US now and will begin pushing snow into our area by late Sunday. Snow may begin scattered after sunset, then overnight will become steadier and heavier. We are expecting snow to be moderate through the Monday morning commute-leading to likely school delays/cancellations and dangerous travel conditions. Snow will become lighter and scattered by the late morning and early afternoon and taper off through the afternoon.

Snowfall amounts will range in the 3-5 inch range through the southern valley and the hill towns, Franklin and Berkshire counties will see more of a 4-8” range with up to 10” in isolated higher spots.

These numbers are subject to change depending on the exact track of the storm. There is a slight chance for some mixing through the valley, which could keep the snow amounts a touch lighter and add traces of ice to the mix-but that is a low probability right now. Also, if a few heavier bands of snow come through and temps remain in the 20s, slightly higher amounts may occur. Stay tuned for updates through the weekend.

Next week we continue with our cold, busy weather pattern. A cold front looks to move through Wednesday with some clouds and possible snow-but there is a lot of uncertainty on amounts at this time. However, there is a high likelihood of another burst of Arctic cold late next week that is looking worse than this cold snap-possibly challenging records!
