Western Mass is under a HIGH WIND WATCH and WIND CHILL WATCH for Thursday evening through early Friday morning...
Our temperatures tonight fell fast and will stay in the teens and low 20s through morning with patchy clouds and a few snow showers and flurries. Winds are increasing and gusts to 20-30mph are possible after midnight through Thursday morning-which will give many wind chills in the single digits and low teens.
Temperatures Thursday remain in the lower 20s most of the morning to around Noon, then will fall into the teens through sunset. Snow squalls will be around on and off through the day and night. The coldest air we are expecting moves in for Thursday night with temperatures falling to around 0. Meanwhile, low pressure strengthens to our northeast and strong high pressure builds to our west-which will bring strong and possibly damaging wind gusts Thursday night through Friday morning. A sustained wind of 15-20mph is likely with gusts to 40-50. Isolated gusts may reach 60mph. Wind chills will fall to -15 to -25 for many… and even -30 in the Berkshires.
Winds will begin to ease Friday as high pressure builds in, however, this will bring very cold air and highs Friday stay in the teens with a wind chill around and below 0.
Our next storm moves in late Friday night with light snow beginning after midnight. Temperatures will be in the low teens at the start but will be rising to the low 30s by mid to late morning Saturday. During this time, snow accumulations look similar to what we saw early Monday-with the valley getting 2-5” and the hills and Berkshires 4-7”. A change to a brief wintry mix then rain is expected sometime Saturday afternoon as temps rise above freezing. We get a break in precip Saturday night, then rain showers are likely Sunday as a cold front moves through. We turn frigid again for Monday and Tuesday.
