Dancing the night away in a church gym isn't just for high schoolers and wedding revelers anymore.

It's for moms, too.

"Women coming together to have a great time for a worthy cause is what Mom Prom is all about," said Mom Prom Founder Betsy Crapps.

This suburban Detroit mother of three has been inviting women to break out their old prom and bridesmaid dresses – even wedding gowns – for a night of dancing, drinking and togetherness with proceeds going to charity.

"Getting dressed up in the craziest get-up, wearing your old prom dress. It's all ladies. We have a blast. We dance until we can't dance anymore," Crapps said. “Ladies just love to have a great time with their girlfriends. It's the ultimate girls' night out. We can get dressed up. We can be silly. We can wear funny dresses."

And it's growing.

In the years since Crapps first hosted the event, she's been inundated with calls and emails from women interested in starting up their own Mom Proms.

"Now, we have up to 80 proms across the country," Crapps said.

Those events will raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for dozens of charitable causes.

Some give out awards, including one of the most coveted: "Tackiest Dress."

That honor was earned this year by veteran Mom Prom-er Traci Hofmann.

"My dress is my original prom dress. I wore it in 1993," Hofmann said. "No one cares what you look like or what you do. It's just fun, you know?"

It’s a chance to go back in time and give back.
