(MEREDITH) -- A New Hampshire hospital has evacuated its emergency department and operating room after an incident involving more than 20 patients, reports the New Hampshire Union Leader.

Reports of a strange odor brought emergency crews to the hospital Friday morning. About 40 patients and some staff experienced flu-like symptoms after the odor was reported, the source of which remains a mystery, according to the Boston Globe

While it has been called a "mass casualty incident," the Boston Globe has found no reports of injuries as of 1 p.m. Friday.

The operating room and emergency room have been closed and sealed, and the odor is currently being investigated.

A spokeswoman for Exeter Hospital told the Union Leader the rest of the hospital remains open and the hospital is coordinating with local emergency personnel to transfer patients.

This story is developing and will be updated as more information is available.
