(MEREDITH) – A 19-year-old Michigan man shot his mother to death while she was sleeping after the two got into an argument over his new puppy, police said.
Andrew David Wilson was arraigned Monday on charges of murder and felony firearm possession.
Wilson called 911 Friday morning and told police he found his mother, Lisa Wilson, dead in their Wheatfield Township home. Officers reportedly found the 51-year-old woman in her bedroom with a gunshot wound to the back of her head.
The Lansing State Journal reports Lisa told her son on Thursday that a puppy he found a few weeks prior couldn’t stay in her home. Instead, she said the dog would have to live with his father in Dansville, a nearby town.
Wilson told police he removed a .22 Magnum rifle from a locked cabinet in the overnight hours. He then went into his mother's room and shot her in the back of the head while she slept, Detective Charles Buckland testified during Monday’s court hearing.
Wilson is being held without bond. His next court date will be held on Sept. 28.
