WEST SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) -

Officials have formally released the name of a man who was struck and killed by a car over the weekend.

James Leydon, spokesperson for the Hampden County District Attorney's office, identified that man as 80-year-old Nelson Dionne of Westfield.

According to West Springfield Police, a car was traveling eastbound on Route 20 around 8:30 a.m. Saturday when it went into the westbound lane, then into the parking lot for Little George's Restaurant - striking Dionne and several other parked cars.

Dionne was taken to Baystate Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.

The D.A.'s office confirmed for Western Mass News that 38-year-old Meghan Scahill of Holyoke has been charged with Negligent Operation.

"Other charges may be brought when that process concludes," Leydon told Western Mass News.

It's not yet known when Scahill will appear in court for an arraignment.

Monday, Sen. Don Humason of Westfield spoke to Western Mass News about Dionne, noting that he was a veteran, part of the Hampton Ponds Association.

The crash remains under investigation.
