The Hilltown Community Health Center has four locations across western Massachusetts and provides health services to thousands of folks each year.

The non-profit center is funded by grants and overseen by everyday people volunteering to ensure health services can be provided to anyone in need.

"Healthcare is always evolving and very challenging and I've found it very interesting to be involved in what's happening, as well as just believing in the mission to provide quality health care to people in the community," said Nancy Brenner, board member for Hilltown Community Health Centers.

Brenner started volunteering as a board member for Hilltown Community Health Centers about 20 years ago.  Her background in social work and interest in healthcare led her to the center

"We have a wide range of services.  You can get your dental care here, optometry care, and if you have other  needs getting insurance or benefits, there's people here to help you with it," Brenner added.

This multi-service non-profit serves 96 communities in four counties in western Massachusetts.

"I think its really important in one part because of our geography, a lot of people have a hard time with transportation and accessing services in general, so to have a health center accessible to homes in the hilltown is huge," Brenner said.

Brenner helps oversee the organization to make sure it's meeting the mission and goals.

"I've been involved with strategic planning a few times.  That's gratifying to take a step back take a look at whole picture, whole environment, try to represent the community's needs," Brenner said.

Brenner told Western Mass News that the center is a gratifying place to volunteer because it provides accessible healthcare in a comfortable, team environment.

"Hearing from people who work here or patients, they'll write letters how wonderful care was or specific situation and that's totally gratifying to hear that," Brenner explained.

Hilltown Community Health Center is expanding to the Amherst area, hoping to have two to three more board members.
