(WCVB via CNN) -- A 51-year-old Massachusetts woman died within days of finding out she had the flu, according to her family.
Jenny Ching thought she was fighting a bad cold when she went to the hospital last Wednesday. Two days later, she died from flu-related complications.
"She had the flu and she also developed a bacterial infection," her husband Matt Ching said. "It was really severe and caused severe pneumonia."
In past years, the mother and her two little boys, ages 9 and 7, would get an annual flu vaccination. But Matt Ching said he wasn't sure if his wife got the shot this season.
Born in China, Jenny Ching moved to Needham, Massachusetts at age 20. She worked at the New Garden restaurant her entire adult life. Her co-workers, who became a part of her extended family, said she hardly missed a day of work.
"She was so strong and so driven for the family. She refused to take a break," said restaurant owner Raymond So.
Hundreds of people attended her wake on Wednesday to pay their respects.
"The community has been unbelievable," Ching said. "The local school, our friends have just been so supportive. Without them, I don't know how I would be to help keep the boys going."
A GoFundMe page has been set up to help Ching's children and family.
