Improving weather Friday and finally a good weekend forecast

Posted: Updated:
SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) -

Low pressure moving east will keep showers around this evening in western Mass. High elevation snow showers continue as well. Even with temperatures at the ground above freezing, colder air moving in aloft will allow for a chance of snow showers tonight in the valley. Little to no accumulation is expected. In the Berkshires, additional accumulations of a coating to an inch are possible.

A northwest breeze will linger overnight, which will help to dry out the valley, but could keep some spotty snow showers around in the Berkshires. Skies should partially clear in the morning with temperatures falling into the low and middle 30s. With an upper low moving northeast, we stay stuck under a dome of cold air and a gusty northwest breeze will persist throughout the day. However, despite the chill, we will see some sunshine and high temps return to near 50 in the afternoon.

Skies will clear out Friday night and winds lighten a bit as high pressure builds in. We have a cold morning Saturday with lows near 30, then highs return to the lower and middle 50s under a sunny sky. A trough lingers over New England though, which will keep things cool and Saturday night temps slip into the 20s. Sunday will be another bright day with abundant sun-which this time of year, could be enough to get the lower valley to 60 degrees.

Spring will be in full swing to start the week with highs in the 60s Monday and Tuesday along with continued sunshine. Our next system will start bringing in clouds Tuesday afternoon and rain showers by Wednesday morning. Rain looks to continue into Thursday with temps falling back below normal.
