A man wanted for a 2017 murder in Springfield is now in custody.
Springfield Police spokesperson Ryan Walsh said that on Tuesday, local, state, and federal law enforcement arrested 27-year-old Kire Smith of Springfield on an outstanding warrant.
"Smith was wanted for the murder of Corey Douglas-Huard on Johnson Street on March 28, 2017," Walsh explained.
The arrest warrant on charges including murder and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling was issued after a nearly 13 month investigation by members of the Springfield Police homicide unit.
Walsh noted that around noon today, officers spotted Smith traveling in a vehicle. He was eventually stopped and taken into custody near the intersection of Johnson Street and Dickinson Street.
