SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) -

A payroll director with the Mass. State Police is accused of stealing money from the department.

Denise Ezekiel, 49, of Holbrook is accused of misappropriating more than $23,000 in travel and reimbursement funds.

A state police spokesperson confirmed the investigation and said that Ezekiel is on unpaid leave indefinitely.

The department has been embroiled in several pay scandals recently, including an investigation that found troopers assigned to patrol the Massachusetts Turnpike with Troop E were being paid overtime for hours never worked.

Ezekiel is facing one count of larceny over $250.  She is scheduled to be arraigned Monday in Framingham District Court.
