Police are investigating a one-car crash that occurred last Wednesday night.
Chicopee Police Officer Michael Wilk said that just after 10 p.m. yesterday, police received calls reporting a crash possibly involving a motor vehicle and a pedestrian on Fuller Road, not far from the ramp to I-291.
Officers arrived and found that it was a single car crash and no pedestrian was involved.
They located the 72-year-old male driver, who appeared to be having some type of medical issue.
"Our officers immediately began life saving measures, in an attempt to stabilize the driver until EMT personnel arrived. CPR, and AED devices were used," Wilk explained.
That man was taken to an area hospital where he passed away.
The passenger in the vehicle, the driver's wife, was able to steer the vehicle, which prevented a head-on crash. The vehicle hit a guardrail, but sustained only minor damage. She was not injured.
Wilk noted that the investigation remains active and ongoing, but it's believed that the driver died due to the medical event and not the crash.
