A Bronx, New York man has been charged after Chicopee police said he attempted to steal over $6,000 in merchandise from Home Depot on Thursday.

Chicopee Officer Mike Wilk said police arrested 24-year-old Carlos Colon and charged him with larceny over $250.

Wilk said loss prevention alerted authorities about a shoplifitng in progress around 3:55 p.m. after three men and a woman were seen loading items into carriages and attempted to use store credit cards to buy those items.

Officers witnessed someone inside a vehicle on a cell phone in the parking lot and determined that person was a "look out".

The other individuals ended up fleeing the store, and police were able to stop Colon while he left the store without paying for $6,200 in goods.

Wilk said Colon gave officers different birth dates and other wrong information. The "look out" was also brought in by police and trespassed from the store for their involvement.
