An accident over the weekend led to the arrest of a Chicopee woman who was allegedly driving drunk with a child in the car.
Chicopee Officer Mike Wilk said 32-year-old Kerri Odea was charged with OUI liquor, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, child endangerment while OUI, and operating an unregistered motor vehicle.
Wilk said officers responded to a two-car accident on 957 Chicopee Street around 4:30 p.m Saturday. It was later determined Odea rear-ended another vehicle that was stopped in traffic, according to Wilk.
Officers at the scene were alerted that someone was giving Odea water and gum in an attempt to mask the smell of alcohol.
The 9-year-old passenger had seat belt marks and air bag burns to her chest. She was treated at the scene and taken to the hospital once her mother arrived to the scene.
Wilk noted Odea told police she left a friends house to go to the store and admitted to consuming alcohol before the crash.
A breathalyzer test revealed Odea had a BAC of .23%.
Odea was released on personal recognizance plus a $40 fee and arraigned in Chicopee District Court Monday morning.
