Is it possible to laser away the signs of aging?

Laser facials are becoming increasingly popular as one of the most effective skin treatments.

Getting rid of several skin impurities at once may now be easier than ever.

"Basically, it's heat and when the heat hits the skin, it will cause some tightening in the skin, but also, it attacks red spots and brown spots," said Dr. Stanley Glazer with New England Dermatology and Laser Center.

From creams and cleansers, peels and injectables, getting the skin you've always dreamed of adds up quickly, but treating skin imperfections at the core can be done with laser facials.

"There are resurfacing lasers and tightening lasers," Glazer added.

Celebrities like Kendall Jenner and Olivia Culpo have turned to laser facial procedures for flawless looking skin.

"People are looking for no down time or minimal down time and results," Glazer explained.

Glazer told Western Mass News that lasers are one of the most effective treatments out there, targeting deep layers of the skins surface with results that last up to two years.

"Initially, I didn't see anything right away, but as I started healing after the procedure, it lightened up a little bit," said Linda Lee.

Lee enjoys spending time outside.  She noticed dark spots on her face getting worse and turned to lasers improve her skins appearance.  A few years later, she said she plans on having the procedure done again.

"I have not been diligent with my treatment, so you can see that it has come back," Lee noted.

Glazer said that it's not a one-and-done thing.  Signs of aging will return over time, but maintaining results can be done with less frequency compared to other options on the market.
"You want one device that will treat a lot of things that's when we'll use the IPL or the term photorejuvenation," Glazer said.

IPL is most commonly used for pigmentation issues and some tightening.  It can also be used on other body parts and is available in the Pioneer Valley.

Glazer recommends patients schedule a consultation to see how skin imperfections can best be treated.  Prices and down time will both range depending on the extent of the laser treatment.
