SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) -

A nationwide issue caused problems with those trying to do some business with the Mass. Registry of Motor Vehicles.

The agency said in a tweet that they were not able to process permit, license, or ID-related transactions for those who are presenting a United States passport or immigration documents to prove lawful presence "due to a national database issue."

Those with U.S. birth certificates could still be verified for lawful presence.

The RMV recently enacted procedures requiring those looking to get a new license or state ID, renew an existing license or state ID, or get a learner's permit to provide documentation showing U.S. citizenship or lawful presence.

Officials asked that if you have non-urgent license or ID business to consider doing that business another day.

By mid-afternoon, the RMV reported that the issue had been fixed and that officials continue to monitor the situation.

Friday's technical issues did not impact registrations, which are still being processed as usual.
