PALMER, MA (WGGB/WSHM) -

Palmer police officials say a male driver was issued an OUI after managing to clip a telephone pole and then crashing into a fire hydrant.

The crash occurred on Ware Road in front of the Thorndike Mills.

The driver, who's name has not been released to the media at this time, was arrested and transported to the Palmer police station.

When asked if water was spewing from the sidewalk, officials told Western Mass News that fire hydrants have a built in safety measure that prevents that from happening.

Adding, "so it's not like you see in the movies."

The driver is expected to be released sometime today.
