One person has died following a motor vehicle crash in Springfield.
Springfield Police Captain Richard LaBelle confirmed with Western Mass News they were called to the scene at 12:10 a.m. Sunday. This was in the area of Goodwin Street and E Laramee Green Street in Springfield.
When emergency crews arrived on scene they found the vehicle had crashed into a tree.
According to police at least one of the occupants was thrown from the vehicle in the crash. We're also told one person became "pinned" outside between the car and another object.
Firefighters with the Springfield Fire Department were able to free that person.
Both individuals involved in the crash were transported to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. One person we're told is in "stable condition," the other person died at the hospital, according to LaBelle.
When asked if there was any word on what caused the vehicle to crash LaBelle told us the following:
"Could be a combination of speed, road conditions, still under investigation."
Police are not releasing the identity of the person who died. No word yet if they were the driver or passenger in the vehicle.
The Hampden District Attorney's Office and the Springfield Police Department continue to investigate this crash.
