Car fire in Springfield damages church, home

SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) -

Both a home and a church sustained damaged from a vehicle fire overnight in Springfield. 

Dennis Leger, Aid to the Springfield Fire Commissioner, reports firefighters were called to the scene at 5:23 a.m. Sunday.

The location given to us was 32 Burr St. 

Leger told Western Mass News, "A 2006 Infinity M35 (was) on fire in the driveway" when firefighters arrived.

The car fire was put out, but damage remained to not just the vehicle itself, but to a nearby home and church as well. 

"The car caused 10K in damage to the siding of a two family home at 32 Burr and under 1K damage to the Shiloh Free Free Will Baptist Church," explained Leger.

No word yet on the cause of the fire.

The Springfield Arson & Bomb Squad is continuing to investigate this incident.

No injuries were reported.
