The first medical marijuana dispensary in Franklin County opened it's doors in Greenfield.
Local patients told Western Mass News they're thrilled to be able to get what they need closer to home.
Patriot Care has two other locations in Massachusetts in Lowell and Boston which have been operating for about two years.
Their newest location opened on Monday for those patients who use cannabis for medical reasons.
"I live right here in Greenfield so I'm very happy I don't have to drive to Northampton anymore. I've been waiting for this place to open for the past three years for them to actually get here for opening day," said Patriot Care patient Trouble Mandeson.
"We like being in Greenfield because it's the heart of the county and it really is where the people go to get what they need," said Patriot Care Executive, Bob Mayerson.
Inside the medical dispensary the design includes fresh wood, clean modern finishes, uniformed employees, and it's completely odorless.
"A lot of the patients we get are people that have no experience with marijuana. They don't necessarily want to go to a head shop kind of luck for us it's about finding a warm welcome place for them to come so they feel like they can participate in something that's beneficial to them," said Mayerson.
There's high security at the door which requires you to show a medical marijuana card from the Department of Health, as well as a secondary ID.
In addition, there is also security at every door to ensure patient safety. Directors told Western Mass News it's all about helping people feel better.
Patriot Care is now open seven days a week for those who qualify. For more information, please visit their website here.
