An investigation is underway after a man was stabbed across the street from a Springfield homeless shelter Monday night.
A spokesperson for the Springfield Police Department said the incident happened around 8:45 p.m.
The stabbing was initially reported by police that it occurred at the Friends of the Homeless shelter on Worthington Street, but a representative for the shelter said the victim was stabbed across the street in an empty lot.
After the victim was stabbed, they mad their way over to the shelter and police reported to the scene, according to the Friends of the Homeless representative.
A female suspect reportedly fled after the incident, and the victim was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
"We have hundreds of clients in which we work diligently to keep save on our property," the Friends of the Homeless shelter representative wrote.
