A Chicopee man was arrested early Thursday morning after police said he broke into a vacant home.

Chicopee Officer Mike Wilk said around 1 a.m. is when police responded to the vacant home on 31 Fuller Street.

The suspect, who was identified as 40-year-old Brett Philbrick, appeared to have entered the home through a shattered basement window and took out copper wiring from the basement that was left near the window.

Officers demanded Philbrick to come out of the home several times and didn't get a response.

Eventually, officers entered through a back door and found Philbrick covered in dirt inside the house in an attempt to hide and conceal himself, Wilk added,

Philbrick was charged with breaking and entering to commit a felony, and was held on $500 bail until he appeared in court on Friday,
