HOLYOKE, MA (WGGB/WSHM) -

A Level 3 sex offender has been trespassed from Holyoke Public Schools after they reportedly took pictures of middle school students during recess.

Parents and guardians of Mc Mahon Elementary School were notified of the incident in a letter sent home on Monday.

Principal Noreen Ewick wrote that the incident occurred last week during 5th and 6th grade recess.

The letter said that as students came outside, a man appeared to be taking pictures of students using a cell phone in a grassy area across from the building's front door.

A spokesperson for Holyoke Public Schools said teachers and staff immediately contacted police.

The investigation by Holyoke police then identified that man as a Level 3 sex offender from Westfield.

The letter noted that at no point the suspect made contact with any students.

"Our staff, along with the Holyoke police, will remain vigilant to that this individual does not return to our school property," Prinicpal Noreen Ewick wrote.

Western Mass News has reached out to both Holyoke and Westfield police for more information.
