More than 200 people are expected to have new jobs with MGM Springfield this week.
With the casino less than 150 days from opening, the push is on to get everyone hired by August 24.
Candidates came to the Mass Mutual Center on Tuesday for their first interview and some walked away with a brand new job.
The private, invitation-only hiring event will continue Wednesday as the casino makes a big push to get thousands of jobs filled by the end of the summer.
Springfield resident Bridgette Ponds was all smiles as she walked out of the Mass Mutual Center employed to be a cage cashier for MGM Springfield.
"I'm from Springfield so this is a great opportunity," said Ponds.
Work at the casino site in the south end continues daily, and MGM's logo is now proudly displayed on Main Street.
"I cannot stress the urgency, if you have not applied for MGM Springfield, get to our website," said MGM Vice President of Human Resources, Marikate Murren.
MGM is hiring 3,000 jobs in various positions, and out of those 3,000, 1,100 will be from Springfield.
MGM said right now, they can't give a percentage of how many they've hired, but over the next several days, MGM has invited 700 potential candidates for first round interviews.
Of those 700, they expect 234 will walk away with jobs in cage operations, security, and food and beverage.
Those jobs are expected to start in July and August.
"I’m actually encouraging other family members to apply as well," said Ponds.
However, MGM Springfield told Western Mass News they still need people to apply in order to fill every position, and they're confident every one will be filled by August 24.
"We have tens of thousands in the system right now. We're always looking for a really high level so we're asking, don't miss out on your opportunity," said Murren.
MGM Springfield said they still have the gaming school open if you're interested in being a dealer, and you can still get into a class.
