The annual World's Largest Pancake Breakfast is something many here in the Pioneer Valley wait all year long for.

A section of Main Street in Springfield is already blocked off, and the cooking has already begun for the big event.
"Year's ago we used to be in competition with Battle Creek, Michigan," said Judy Matt, the President of Spirit of Springfield.

On Saturday morning, breakfast will be served on Main Street with the largest offering of pancakes and bacon in one place at one time.
Judy Matt told Western Mass News this is the true celebration of the city.
"It's the celebration of the city's founding on May 14,1636 so we try to do it as close to that date," Matt explained.
Alex Dixon, General Manager of MGM Springfield is this year's honorary chair, and said he's honored to be a part of such a wonderful time for Springfield.
"There's a lot of great things going on and it's bringing people together," said Dixon.
Dixon has already started fulfilling his duties as chair while getting his hands dirty cooking up bacon with Sheriff Nick Cocchi, who was last year's honorary chair.
"I gave him all the tips on how to make crispy bacon people like it crispy," said Cocchi.
Not only will there be pancakes, syrup, coffee, and juice, there will also be almost a thousand pounds of bacon.
"There's 990 pounds of bacon, 700 gallons of orange juice, 700 gallons of milk, there's 500 gallons of pancake batter it goes on and on," Matt continued.
The chefs got started on mixing the batter Friday afternoon for enough to feed 12,000 people.
Rain or shine, people are encouraged to join in on the fun.
"Come on 7:30, 8 we'll be ready for you come on get your pancakes and have a good time we have so much entertainment have a good time so bring an umbrella," Matt added.
Tickets are $3 for adults and $1 for children so be sure to stop by, enjoy some breakfast, and of course say hello to the Western Mass News crew!
