ORANGE, MA (WGGB/WSHM) -

A man arrested in connection with a deadly crash on Sunday has appeared before a judge.

Mary Carey, spokesperson for the Northwestern District Attorney's office, said that 28-year-old Jay Pressley of Orange was arraigned Friday on a number of charges after he was arrested yesterday in relation to that crash in Athol.

Police responded to a single-vehicle crash around 8 p.m. Sunday in the area of 1060 South Athol Road.

Eric Gage, 26, of Athol was killed in the crash.  Two other people were injured and transported to UMass Memorial Medical Center for treatment.

Pressley is facing several charges including:

  • Manslaughter
  • Manslaughter by motor vehicle
  • Motor vehicle homicide by OUI and negligence
  • OUI causing serious bodily injury
  • OUI liquor
  • Reckless operation of a motor vehicle
  • Negligent operation of a motor vehicle
  • Marked lanes violation
  • Speeding

Carey noted that due to an agreement between the parties, Pressley was ordered held without bail without prejudice.  That means that he can request bail at a later date.

Another court date is scheduled for June 25.

The incident remains under investigation.
