HOLYOKE, MA (WGGB/WSHM) -

The city of Holyoke is among the latest western Massachusetts community that plans to file suit against opioid manufacturers.

Mayor Alex Morse made the announcement Monday through a press release sent through his Chief of Staff, Rory Casey.

Casey wrote the city plans to file a nuisance lawsuit against five of the largest manufacturers of prescription opioids, their related companies, and against the country's three largest wholesale drug distributors.

The release claims those manufacturers and distributors failed to identify and report suspicious activity in the size and frequency of opiod shipments to pharmacies and hospitals.

This news comes after several communities like Chicopee, Springfield, and Greenfield have also filed similar lawsuits against opioid manufacturers.
