Millions of Americans are hitting the roads to get to their holiday weekend destinations.
AAA said that Friday is the busiest day for travel this holiday weekend.
They estimate that nearly 42 million Americans will travel this Memorial Day weekend. That is nearly five percent more than last year and the most in more than a decade.
About 88 percent of travelers will be driving to their destination with today's rush hour time-frame being the busiest.
That's why some drivers, like Bob Hayden from Easthampton, decided to leave at 5 a.m. instead.
“Beat the traffic. There's nobody awake yet, they are just starting to wake up now. This is nothing...go down to New York City, or Jersey," said Bob Hayden of Easthampton.
Unfortunately, you’ll also see gas prices on the rise.
AAA reports that customers can expect to see the highest gas prices on a Memorial Day weekend since 2014.
The national average for a gallon of regular, unleaded gas is currently $2.90.
