Welcome to the unofficial start of summer and it will feel like summer today before a cold front brings much cooler air and a chance for showers tomorrow. Memorial Day itself looks mild with mainly cloudy skies.
An Air Quality Alert for unhealthy levels of ground level ozone will go into effect at 11 am this morning and remain in effect until 11 pm this evening. It's in effect for central and eastern Hampden county, including Springfield, as well as to our east and south.
We will start out with sunshine this morning but it will begin to mix with clouds this afternoon. As a cold front slides down from the north there is the slight chance for a shower or storm late this afternoon into tonight. Highs today will top out in the upper 80s to around 90 with lows tonight dropping back into the upper 50s.
Behind the front, the wind will shift back to the northeast, which will usher in much cooler air for Sunday. Expect a dramatic temperature change on Sunday, with temperatures over 30 degrees cooler.
High pressure building to our northeast Sunday will keep the day much cooler with highs in the 50s and 60s. There will be a stalled front to our south that will keep clouds around and may bring some showers our way, though the day does not look like a wash out.
We will likely see some improvement on Memorial Day. It is looking mainly dry and a bit milder with some sun with temperatures in the low to mid 70s. Warmer temps build back in next with several days hitting the 80s.
