Memorial Day is all about remembering our fallen veterans.
That's exactly what the Honor & Remember organization here in western Mass did today, honoring their fallen brothers and sisters with a day filled of fun.
"[It was] a very nice surprise," Navy veteran Harry McDonald told Western Mass News. "[I] was not expecting this today."
Although this horse-drawn carriage ride is much calmer than the seas he's conquered, he says being among fellow heroes brings back many memories and emotions.
"Glad I'm still around," McDonald went on to say. "Never really had heavy combat in the navy, but I enjoyed serving the country. It was a real experience."
The Honor & Remember organization treated the soldier's home residents to a day filled with amazing barbeque food, art, and horse rides.
The organization's mission is to honor and remember fallen service members.
In Massachusetts alone, there are more than 37,000 fallen soldiers.
Chapter director Brian Miller says this is one way to show their gratitude.
"You're talking World War II, Korea, and Vietnam," Miller stated. "A lot of history here, but these guys...the stories they have...tell you for hours. Some of them don't have family left in the area. So when we come here, it's extended family. They love it."
