East Longmeadow is doubling its efforts to make sure town residents have a great summer.
Their campaign slogan, 'fun happens here' is shaking things up with new summer programs hoping to attract kids, adults, and families to join in.
East Longmeadow Recreation Director Donna Prather hopes town residents will embrace their motto this summer.
Prather told Western Mass News spots for campers and family memberships are still available, but because of it's popularity, employment spots are gone.
"Everyone said they wanted to work here because it's fun. They like the friends they made and they want to come back," said Prather.
The town is hoping to get more families involved this summer by offering up new plots in the popular community gardens, which Prather said is off to a great start.
The gardeners are just chomping to get in there, they wanted to go. We were able to get it tilled, we got a break from the weather," Prather added.
The town is also offering free summer movies starting this Friday at center field right off the East Longmeadow rotary.
"We're also doing something new where we're going to have more activities for the kids beforehand. We're asking parents to come out to center field, picnic, throw their blankets down, have chairs ready. We'll have a few events for the kids to have them run around and get the energy out," said Lindsay Beer.
The field is transformed for movies, with bounce houses and face painters as a part of the pre-movie festivities.
Track and field, football, soccer and tennis for all ages, and a bus trip to Fenway Park are just a few of the many programs offered this summer.
