Authorities are investigating after a student reportedly brought a utility knife to a Palmer school.
Palmer School Supt. Pat Gardner said that the child showed that knife during recess Thursday at Old Mill Pond Elementary School.
"We followed district policy, addressed the incident, and are continuing to investigate and follow-through," Gardner added.
Additional information regarding the student and any disciplinary actions taken have not been released.
Gardner noted that the district considers the incident "serious in nature" and will adhere to "strict consequences" as allowed in their discipline code, as well as Massachusetts general law.
School officials are asking that everyone to remain vigilant and for parents and guardians to monitor what their children can access and to check what is in their backpacks, purses, lunch boxes, as well as on their person,
"We do our best every day to ensure the safety of each child. Your help is imperative and appreciated," Gardner said.
