Ludlow police have identified a man who died over the weekend, and his son who was charged in connection to the incident.
Sunday night, police said they responded to 306 Sewall Street for an assault between a father and son.
When officers arrived at the scene they found 54-year-old Ludlow resident John Goncalves was incapacitated. Police said he was immediately transported to Baystate Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
Police noted the suspect, who was identified as 27-year-old Joao Goncalves of Ludlow was taken into custody and arraigned in Palmer District Court on Monday for charges including:
Police said his bail was set at $50,000 cash, and he is set to appear in court again on July 3 this year.
"Hampden District Attorney Anthony D. Gulluni offers his sympathies to the victim’s family during this difficult time," police said.
The incident is under investigation by the Ludlow Police Department, the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Hampden District Attorney’s Office, the Hampden District Attorney’s Office, and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
