ATHOL, MA (WGGB/WSHM) -

An Athol man is facing several charges following an incident overnight.

Mary Carey, spokesperson for the Northwestern District Attorney's office, told Western Mass News that around midnight, Athol Police responded to a home on Lenox Street for an apparent home invasion.

When officers arrived, they attended to two victims who were suffering from lacerations to their necks.  Those two people were transported to an area hospital and are expected to survive.

Timothy Murphy, 58, of Athol was arrested on charges including assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (knife), attempted murder, home invasion, vandalizing property, and breaking and entering in the nighttime to commit a felony.  He pleaded not guilty Wednesday in Greenfield District Court and is being held until a dangerousness hearing on June 12.

The case remains under investigation.
