Five people are facing drug charges after a traffic stop Tuesday in Franklin County.

Mass. State Police said that early Tuesday morning, a trooper pulled a vehicle over along I-91 north in Greenfield after seeing a defective plate light and the vehicle traveling over lane markings.

When police made contact with the driver and passengers, he reportedly saw drug-related paraphernalia in the vehicle and determined that the driver's license was suspended in Vermont.

State Police added that upon further investigation, three balloons containing 83 grams of a substance believed to be fentanyl were found in the vehicle.

Arrested were:

  • Morgan Peck, 32, of Lyndon Center, VT
  • Nicholas Maio, 26, of Lyndonville, VT
  • Cindy Crooks, 31, of Westberke, VT
  • Hubert Spencer, 20, of Brooklyn, NY
  • Jermaine Taylor, 43, of Brooklyn NY

All five were charged with trafficking in fentanyl and conspiracy to violate drug law.  Maio faces an additional charge of carrying a dangerous weapon (knife), while Peck has additional charges of unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, lights violation, and committing a marked lanes violation.
