West Springfield man facing drug, weapons charges

A West Springfield man is arrest, accused of being in possession of several drugs.

West Springfield Police said that authorities had been conducting an investigation into heroin distribution in the area, specifically heroin that was stamped 'Epidemic.'

On Wednesday, members of the department's narcotics unit, along with a member of the Western Mass. FBI Gang Task Force, arrested Nicholas Bernardi of West Springfield on Lyman Street during an alleged heroin transaction.

Police added that Bernardi was reportedly found in possession of a loaded, stolen 9mm semi-automatic handgun, 300 bags of heroin stamped 'Epidemic', and $1,205 in cash during his arrest.

Investigators then searched a Lyman Street home and found:

  • 382 more bags of heroin stamped 'Epidemic'
  • Approximately 94 grams of cocaine
  • Illegally-possessed pills including Ativan, clonazepam, and Lorazepam
  • .22 caliber long rifle, loaded with 16 rounds
  • 109 grams of marijuana
  • Two 'stun guns'
  • 10 rounds of 9mm ammunition
  • 1 'Uzi' style BB gun
  • Drug packaging materials

Bernardi is facing a long list of charges including possession to distribute a Class A drug (heroin), trafficking cocaine (36-100 grams), possession of a Class A, B, C, and D drug, and various weapons-related charges.
