The North American Police Work Dog Association (NAPWDA) hosted their annual workshop Sunday afternoon.

Local and international K9 officers are leading demos for the public.

Dogs will learn more about tracking, apprehension and detection work, all leading up to Demonstration Day that takes place Thursday, June 14th, at the Big E fairgrounds.

The event is open to the public.

The state coordinator says the audience will really be able to see the bond between the K9 and handler.

"The handlers spend more time with them than their own family," NAPWDA coordinator Dwane Foisy told us. "You're with them eight hours a day so there's a special bond that develops between the handler and their partner."

Today's workshop kicked off a number of presentations happening this week, including networking and training events.

The organization is leading public safety events, S.W.A.T. drills, K9 demos, and much more.
