Dozens of citations and violations were issued after city officials conducted a sweep on Thursday.
Springfield Police spokesperson Ryan Walsh said that yesterday, members of the department's ordinance unit and code enforcement unit conducted a sweep of 'Sector I', which is in Sixteen Acres.
During their patrol of the neighborhood, officers issued 42 ordinance violations and 12 speeding citations.
"If they see any types of violations, they'll issue a citation, but the goal is to really educate. If somebody is able to remedy those violations in a small time frame those can be turned into warnings. We just want people to take care of some of the issues on their own property, so it doesn't impact their neighbors," Walsh explained.
Walsh noted that the operation, which was called "successful", gave police a chance to interact with the residents and hear from them on crime issues, cleaning up blight, and attending monthly beat meetings.
It also gave officers the chance to discuss registering one's security cameras with Springfield Police.
Members of the code enforcement unit also issued an additional 41 code violations.
There are more sweeps slated for other sections of the city.
