There is a new leader of the 104th Fighter Wing at Barnes Air National Guard Base.
The Westfield-based unit announced Friday that Col. Peter Green III has been appointed commander effective Friday.
Green had served as the 104th's vice commander for the last three years and has served with the Mass. Air National Guard and the 104th for over 36 years.
"He is the right leader to take the wing into what will be a bright and exciting future, and insure we continue to develop the next generation of leaders responsible for a sound strategy and plan," said Maj. Gen. Gary Keefe, adjutant general for the Mass. National Guard.
Green replaces outgoing commander Col. James Suhr, who has now been assigned to a position as Secretary of the Air Force's Legislative Liaison office at the Pentagon.
A formal change of command ceremony will be held on Sunday, August 5 at 3:30 p.m. at Barnes.
